VAT: Reporting, Deadlines & Common Questions

Last updated: July 23, 2025

What happens if I don’t submit my VAT documents on time?

If we haven’t received your documents (sales invoices, expenses, bank transactions) before the quarterly deadline, we may need to submit your VAT report based on the information we already have.

If needed, we can correct it later once you provide the missing details.

What if my VAT report is submitted late?

If your report is submitted a few days late, the Dutch Tax Office (Belastingdienst) will usually just send a warning — no fine (especially if it’s the first time).

However, repeated delays can lead to penalties, so it’s best to stick to the deadlines whenever possible.

At Xolo we want to avoid this, so we will always submit your VAT report on time!

Can I make corrections after submitting?

Yes — corrections are allowed, even after your VAT return has been submitted.

  • If the correction is under €1,000, it can simply be included in your next VAT return.
  • If the correction is over €1,000, we’ll need to submit a separate correction to the Tax Office.

How long do I have to make corrections?

You can submit VAT corrections for up to 5 years after the original filing.
Ideally, though, we recommend making any corrections within the same fiscal year, just to keep things clean and up to date.
