Income as freelance/autónomo (business income)

Última actualización: November 18, 2025

If you work or have worked as a self-employed professional during the year, you must include the income and expenses of your economic activity, specifying the activity code under which you are registered and any withholdings applied to invoices issued.

  • Income

You must include all income received during the year as reported in VAT (Forms 303 and 390) and income tax (Form 130) filings, if applicable.

Additionally, include any subsidies related to your business activity, such as the Kit Digital program.

  • Expenses

Expenses should be itemized by category. Common categories include:

  • Professional expenses: such as accounting fees, software, purchase of materials, etc.
  • Rental of premises: if you work from a rented office or space.
Social Security contributions: both your own self-employed contributions and those for employees, if any.
  • Health insurance: if you included private health insurance as an expense, the limit is €500. If the policy also covers your spouse and children, you may include up to €500 per family member. The insurance must be under your name, and a certificate from the insurer must confirm that your spouse and children are covered.
  • Depreciable assets: amortization of business investments for the current or previous years may be deducted from your income.
  • Utilities and supplies: water, electricity, gas, and internet expenses included in your accounts during the year.
Travel expenses: meals, transportation, and accommodation related to business trips.

If you did not include an expense during the year, you can still include it in your income tax return.

Important: Expenses must be included in the fiscal year in which they were incurred. For example, a 2023-dated expense cannot be deducted on the 2024 tax return according to the regulations. Make sure you include all expenses to avoid losing the deduction.
