Deregistering or closing your autónomo involves two separate deregistrations, and both need to happen:
- Tax Agency (AEAT or Hacienda): file a baja in the census of activities using Modelo 036, ceasing your registered activity (IAE/epígrafe).
- Social Security (TGSS): file the baja in the RETA (autónomo regime), so your monthly contributions stop.
Order and timing matter: the Social Security baja should generally be requested within a few days of stopping activity, and if it's processed after the start of a month, you may still owe that month's contribution.
You also still need to file the quarterly reports (IVA, IRPF) covering the period you were active that quarter, and your annual Renta the following year — closing mid-year doesn't remove those obligations.
If you have pending invoices or expenses, settle and record them before the deregistration so they're captured in your final quarter.
Through Xolo, your advisor handles the AEAT and TGSS filings for you — start the process from your dashboard or by contacting support, and they'll confirm the exact dates and any final filings you still owe.
